Many of them come with special screens that are designed to protect you against sparks and ash; however, if you have one that does not, you will want to purchase one in order to help protect those who will be enjoying the fire pit. Additionally, if there will be any young people around it as well, make sure that they do not go anywhere near the pit without an adult present.

Lighting

In terms of lighting your fire pit, you will want to make sure you do so using kindling and a piece of newspaper. This is considered to be the old fashioned method of lighting a fire. Under absolutely no circumstances should you use any kinds of flammable liquids to light your fire pit, as these can not only cause the fire to spread, but they can also spread all sorts of harmful toxins that can harm those around the fire pit.

Neutral Surface

Ensure that you construct your fire pit on any kind of a neutral surface, such as stone, brick or gravel. Never place it on a surface such as a lawn or a deck made of wood, as either surface will be at risk of catching on fire due to sparks and embers emanating from the fire pit.
