If you have a grill that’s dirty, the smoke that emanates from it will result in any food cooked on it tasting not as you intended it to. The best way to prevent this is to ensure that you take the time to clean your grill on an at least an annual basis, or every time you use it if you want to go above and beyond, as this will help to make the cleaning process itself much easier.

Here are the steps that you should follow in order to properly clean a grill!

Safety First

First and foremost, you will need to disconnect the grill’s gas line, then place warm soapy water into a bucket.

Grill Grates

Remove the grill’s grates. Once you do this, use a wire brush to brush them clean.

Break It Down

Remove the barrier that separates the burners and grate, which is often lava rocks, a flame shield, or briquettes. Using a soft wire brush, you will want to unclog all of the burner holes. Once you have brushed away any residue and ash, you will then want to put the burner itself back into the normal position. Use warm soapy water to wash the grill’s flame shield. If your grill uses either briquettes or lava rocks, use the warm soapy water to brush these clean instead.

Scrub Scrub Scrub

Use the warm soapy water and wire brush to also completely scrub the inside surfaces of the grill itself. Once this has been done, use clean water to rinse the area, then dry the area with a cloth.

You’re Done!

Once this has been done, you will then be ready to grill your next meal. Prior to doing this, however, you will want to heat the grill itself for no more than ten minutes.

It’s also important to note that prior to following these steps, you will want to take the time to check the manufacturer’s instructions of your grill in case there are any other special instructions.
